Best Optical Illusion
"Little Emily"
Shutter Speed: 1/100
F-Stop: 10.0
ISO: 100
Lighting: Outside with clouds
Artist's Statement: I think this picture is my best of all the optical illusion photos because it looks the most realistic. I tried multiple times to do this photo but it didn't work out because for one I was inside, so the ceiling was a big restriction, also the hand and where the model was standing was not lined up so it looked fake. I think what works with the picture is that I got the larger model to look down at her hand as if there was an actual little person standing in her palm and I got the further away model to look to her left, sort of upwards so it looks like she is standing in her hand and that she is a a giant. With this picture, it works because I changed the setting, so we are outside instead of inside this time, and I think made the photo look more realistic. The challenges I faced with trying to take this picture is trying to line up the hand and the bottom of the feet perfectly and trying to tell the model's exactly where to move was difficult because they couldn't see and it was hard trying to tell them exactly where to move their for it to be perfect. The way I was positioned was key to making the picture look realistic, I had to crouch down a little, so I was level with the closest model's hand to make it look even. If I was level with the closest model's face, the picture would not work because it wouldn't be positioned right and it would look like the further model was not standing on her hand. I went outside for this shot in a football field outside of the school, the day was pretty overcast so that benefit my photograph because if it was sunny, the sun would cast a shadow on both of my model's, making it look very unrealistic. Another thing that really pulls together the picture is the fact that the closest model's face is a surprised face like "This is AWESOME!", making it look like she was amazed that there was an actual little person standing in her palm.
